Can strength training help you lose weight?

With the continuous improvement of living conditions, many people always eat high-nutrition foods in their daily lives. In addition, many people do not have good exercise habits. Even if they exercise, they are always enthusiastic for only three minutes, which leads to a very high chance of obesity. Therefore, many people need to lose weight. Can strength training have the effect of losing weight? Let’s find out together!

It's common to hear people say "you should do aerobic exercise to lose fat, and if you want to build muscle, you should do weight training" but this is only partially true.

To lose fat, the only thing you need to do is to go into a caloric deficit. Exercise You can create a calorie deficit through strength training (also known as resistance training, muscle strength training), aerobic exercise, or a combination of both. Weight training is not just for fitness enthusiasts who want to grow muscles. Let’s take a look at why strength training is needed to lose weight?

First of all, when you diet and do cardio but don't do some weight training, the weight you lose will be from muscle + fat. Losing muscle means you'll lose weight faster because a pound of muscle contains far fewer calories than a pound of fat. In the end, you end up looking one size smaller than you are now, but with a lot of the flab still intact.

Strength training increases your body's muscle mass. When the body's muscle mass increases, it can maintain a faster metabolism and consume more energy. It is not like losing weight by doing only aerobic exercise, which only consumes the body's energy during exercise, but will no longer be consumed once you stop. Muscle is a big energy consumer. When muscle is lost, metabolism will naturally decrease and it will not be able to consume more calories.

Second, with a properly designed weight training program, you will burn fat both during and after training. This is the afterburn effect. People who want to lose weight after strength training not only consume energy during exercise, but also need to consume more energy even after stopping. Because after exercise, human muscles need to grow and repair, which requires energy.

From the above introduction, we can see that strength training can help you lose weight, but it should be noted that losing weight is a relatively huge project. The fat on your body will not grow in a day or two, so losing weight is not something that can be done overnight. So no matter what kind of exercise method you take, you must stick to it to get good results.
