The posterior group of arm muscles (extensor group) belonging to the upper limb muscles is located behind the humerus. It has three heads at its origin. The long head originates from below the glenoid cavity of the scapula, and the medial and lateral heads both originate from the back of the humerus. The three heads merge into a muscle belly and end at the olecranon of the ulna with a flat tendon. Function: Extends the elbow joint; its long head extends and adducts the upper arm.

Simply put, it's on the front and back of the biceps (the strongest muscle in the arm).

The triceps brachii is horseshoe-shaped, attached to the back of the upper arm, and is divided into three parts: the lateral head, the medial head, and the long head.
