What parts of your body can be exercised by swimming?

With the popularity of movies and TV series, more and more people are becoming interested in swimming. Girls want to attract men's attention and show off their proud figures by wearing swimsuits, and men also hope to meet some beautiful women through swimming and have a romantic encounter. However, these factors are actually secondary. More importantly, swimming can not only help us lose weight, but also very effectively help us exercise our cardiopulmonary capacity and improve our own resistance.

1. Improve the function of the cardiovascular system

The cardiovascular system includes the heart, lungs, and blood vessels that carry oxygen to muscle cells. Overcoming the resistance of water when swimming requires more energy, which speeds up the heart rate and increases cardiac output. If you persist in long-term swimming exercises, the volume of the heart will increase, the myocardium will contract more powerfully, the resting heart rate will slow down, the stroke volume will increase, the blood vessel walls will thicken and become more elastic, and the efficiency of the cardiovascular system will be improved.

In addition, the human body is in a supine position when swimming, and the pressure of water on the skin creates a massage effect. Therefore, it is easier for blood from the limbs, especially the lower limbs, to flow back to the heart than when standing upright on land.

2. Improve the function of the respiratory system

One of the main characteristics of water is its incompressibility. Because the density of water is more than 800 times greater than that of air, the pressure on people in water is much greater than that in air. This is why beginner swimmers find it difficult to breathe in water. Because the pressure on the chest and abdominal cavities increases in water, this forces the respiratory muscles to use greater force to breathe. Therefore, swimming regularly can increase the strength of the respiratory muscles and improve the function of the respiratory system. The most obvious example is the value of vital capacity. The lung capacity of a swimmer can reach 4000 to 6000 ml, or even 7000 ml, while the average person only has 3000 to 4000 ml.

Swimming, as a fashionable sport nowadays, can not only help us have a slimmer figure, but also help us have a better body. Nowadays, work pressure is getting higher and higher, and the physical condition of most white-collar workers is also worrying. Swimming for a few hours a week can effectively improve your physical fitness and have a healthier lifestyle. Why not do it?
