When the biceps brachii contracts, the elbow joint flexes; when the biceps brachii relaxes, the elbow joint extends or the forearm hangs down.

This muscle has long and short biceps, with muscle bundles arranged in parallel, making it a biarticular muscle.

Origin: The long head originates from the supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula, and the short head originates from the coracoid process of the scapula.

Insertion point: The long head passes through the shoulder joint and descends through the intertubercular groove, merging with the short head in the middle of the humerus to form a spindle-shaped muscle belly. The tendon inserts into the radial tuberosity and forearm fascia.

Function: When nearly fixed and contracted, the upper arm is flexed at the shoulder joint and the forearm is flexed and externally rotated at the elbow joint. When the forearm is in an externally rotated position, the muscle strength can be fully used to flex the elbow; when the forearm is in a neutral position or internally rotated position, the muscle strength used to flex the elbow is gradually weakened. When performing distal fixed contraction, bend the upper arm at the elbow joint and bring it closer to the forearm. When this muscle contracts, it can also tense the forearm fascia and intermuscular septa, thereby providing additional support structure for the forearm muscles.

The biceps are the legendary "face" muscles, that is, strong biceps will have a sense of beauty and strength, but in daily life and movements, the biceps are not the main and most useful muscles. Its opposite, the triceps brachii, is the real contributor. A balanced sense of strength also requires the coordinated development of muscles throughout the body.
