Is swimming considered an aerobic exercise?

Many friends like swimming, but they often wonder whether swimming is an aerobic exercise or anaerobic exercise. Friends who have this problem are often unclear about the specific meaning of aerobic exercise or anaerobic exercise. In fact, sports like swimming are aerobic exercise if the movements are slow and rhythmic during the exercise and allow the body to burn energy through oxygen. If the exercise intensity is very high, such as competitive competitions, it is anaerobic exercise.

Aerobic exercise is also called aerobic metabolic exercise. As the name suggests, it means exercising in an aerobic metabolic state. That is to say, during exercise, the oxygen inhaled by the human body is equal to its demand, reaching a physiological balance.

Benefits of aerobic exercise: Long-term endurance exercise can fully and effectively stimulate the heart (circulatory system) and lungs (respiratory system), improve heart and lung function, and thus allow all tissues and organs in the body to receive a good supply of oxygen and nutrients to maintain optimal functional conditions.

Aerobic exercise is characterized by low intensity, rhythm and long duration. Each exercise should last no less than 1 hour and should be done 3 to 5 times a week. Through this kind of exercise, oxygen can fully break down sugar in the body, consume body fat, enhance and improve cardiopulmonary function, prevent osteoporosis, and regulate psychological and mental state. It is the main form of exercise for fitness.

Anaerobic exercise refers to the high-speed and intense movement of muscles in a state of "oxygen deprivation". Most anaerobic exercises are high-intensity and instantaneous, so they are difficult to sustain for a long time and fatigue is eliminated slowly.

Through the above introduction, everyone has a certain understanding of aerobic and anaerobic exercise, and swimming can be regarded as both aerobic exercise and anaerobic exercise. If it is competitive 100-meter sprint swimming, it is anaerobic exercise. If it is ordinary swimming with slow and rhythmic movements, it is considered aerobic exercise. In fact, swimming is a whole-body exercise that protects both aerobic and anaerobic aspects.
