How to use trekking poles

How should we use trekking poles when climbing? If we don't pay attention when using trekking poles, we can't reach the place we want to go smoothly. If the trekking poles are not used properly, it will be a big obstacle to climbing, because the mountain road is not easy to walk and it is very steep, so we have to use trekking poles to complete it. Let's take a look at how to use trekking poles.

1. Adjust the length of the trekking pole

Generally, two sections of a three-section trekking pole can be adjusted. Start by loosening all the trekking poles.

Extend the support pole near the bottom to the maximum length limit. There are scales on the trekking pole for reference.

Stand on a flat surface holding the trekking pole and adjust its length. Let your arms hang naturally, use your elbows as fulcrums, raise your forearms until they are 90 degrees to your upper arms, and then adjust the tip of the trekking pole downward until it touches the ground. Alternatively, place the head of the trekking pole 5 to 8 centimeters under your armpits, and then adjust the tip of the pole downward until it touches the ground.

Tighten all the poles of the trekking pole. Just adjust the other trekking pole that has not been adjusted to the same length as the trekking pole with locked length.

When adjusting the trekking pole, you should not exceed the maximum adjustment length displayed on the trekking pole. When purchasing a trekking pole, you can first adjust the length to determine whether you have purchased a trekking pole of appropriate length. 2. Use of wristband

Most people hold the handle of the trekking pole tightly to apply force when using it, thinking that the function of the wrist strap is only to prevent the trekking pole from leaving their wrist. If you think so, you are wrong. The importance of the wrist strap is no less than the strength of the trekking pole itself! When we use the trekking pole to go downhill, the impact force of the trekking pole should be transmitted to our arm through the wrist strap; when going uphill, the thrust of the arm is transmitted to the trekking pole through the wrist strap to generate assistance for going uphill, so when our wrist passes through the wrist strap, we should not directly reach in from the top of the wrist strap to grab the handle, but we should pick up the wrist strap, insert it from the bottom of the wrist strap, press the strap into our palm, and then gently grab the handle [please see the attached picture], and support the trekking pole through the wrist strap instead of holding the handle tightly to apply force. If there is a buckle, make slight adjustments, remembering not to affect the operation of the trekking pole.

3. How to operate the trekking pole

The following is an introduction to the normal operation method of using trekking poles, but it is not the only way. You can make slight adjustments after actual operation to find a method that suits you so that you can fully utilize the benefits of trekking poles. On flat ground and gentle uphill walks, follow the same rhythm as normal walking. As your left foot moves forward, your right arm should also bring the trekking pole forward, but the tip of the pole should not exceed the front of your body. Then push against the ground and push backwards. Alternate between your left and right hands to perform the same movements.

When using trekking poles, it is recommended that you choose this method to help yourself climb the mountain. You must also pay attention to safety when you are climbing. If you are climbing on a rainy day, then you must carry trekking poles with you. It is best to go hiking outside when the weather is relatively clear. This way, the climbing effect will be better and you can also keep yourself safe, but you must bring the items you need.
