Punching a sandbag seems like a simple thing to do. Just fill a bag with sand, hang it up and hit it. There are many martial artists who have hit sandbags for many years but cannot improve their skills because they do not know the key points of hitting sandbags. Upon analysis, the following common drawbacks can be seen. ① There is no actual combat awareness when hitting. Since the sandbag has no hands or feet and cannot fight back, practitioners tend to relax and punch hard. They can be seen to be very powerful and punching like rain during practice, but once they get into actual combat, their hands and feet become stiff and their minds become tense, and they are unable to make full use of the skills they have practiced. This is why the sandbag is not imagined as a person during the exercise. There was no combination of attack, defense, and footwork, and no striking with a sense of actual combat. ② The steps are stiff and the distance is inappropriate. Some people fill sandbags with hard sand or stones, get into a horse stance, and hit their opponents hard. They keep gritting their teeth and fighting until their fists are bruised and battered, thinking that only by enduring hardship can they develop an "iron fist." In fact, this is meaningless suffering and is harmful to one's body. If the punch above and the footwork below are not coordinated consistently, they cannot produce much power. When have you ever seen a world boxing champion doing horse stance and hitting a sandbag? Humans are living things, and even if they are very powerful in hitting fixed objects, that may not necessarily be useful in actual combat with lightning-fast movements.

The rhythm of hitting the sandbag should be changed within 3 minutes. Most people just hit it hard, and in less than 30 seconds, they are tired and out of breath, but they think it is due to lack of endurance. If you don't know how to breathe, attack without purpose, and don't know how to change, you will consume a lot of physical strength, but the effect will be poor.

There are some other issues that are not listed one by one. The main points of hitting the sandbag are introduced in detail below. If the practitioner learns and understands them thoroughly, he will eliminate the state of brute and chaotic hitting. 1. Sandbag configuration and installation. Sandbags come in two types: heavy and long, and small ball types. The heavy and long type is between 100 and 150 cm high, 35 and 40 cm in diameter, and weighs between 35 and 50 kg. It has a coarse canvas cover (which can be made by shoe repairmen), and a small cylindrical sandbag inside, filled with soft objects such as sawdust or sponges. To prevent the middle sand core from sagging, when hanging, the medium and small cores should be hung as the main force-bearing parts, and then the outer jacket should be attached. Small sandbags can be used to practice intensive boxing. They are slightly larger than basketballs and filled with sand or sawdust. Spherical shape is preferred, and cylindrical shape is not suitable. For those who live in high-rise buildings in the city, you can use angle steel and expansion screws to fix a 90-degree bracket on the side of the wall that can bear the load, and use it to hang sandbags. There must be 1.5 meters of room for movement around the sandbags. Set up a pulley or steel clip to pull it up when in use and lower it when not in use. For heavy and long sandbags, the bottom of the sandbag should be slightly higher than the practitioner's navel; for small spherical sandbags, the bottom should be at the same height as the practitioner's head. 2. Methods of attack. 1. Fixed hitting method: someone can hold the sandbag and the practitioner can hit it accurately. This is the initial stage, which can make practitioners experience the power of fist and foot, and those who are not clear about the key points of kicking and punching. Those who use force incorrectly are often easily knocked down by the reaction force at this stage. Those who punch without knowing how to use force are likely to find their own shortcomings in pushing or weak striking. Stand in the position of stepping forward to hit the sandbag and step forward to hit, so as to experience the distance, the force of the whole body, penetrating force, whipping force, concussion force, etc. If one can perform the strike with obvious skill, then one can progress to hitting a movable sandbag.
