What to do if you suffer a sports injury? Remember these 4 words from orthopedic experts

All things are reviving, and people should also move in response to the times. However, during outdoor sports, your body may get injured if you are not careful. Some people think that as long as the pain is not unbearable, they can just let it go. In fact, these "minor injuries" are related to life and health. We have invited authoritative experts to summarize for you the common types of injuries and treatments during sports.

Experts say that as the weather gets warmer, sports injuries are increasing significantly. This is partly due to insufficient preparation before exercise and post-exercise rehabilitation exercises or incorrect posture during exercise. The second is that the exercise is too intense and no attention is paid to self-protection. The third is intensive training on weekends.

Most office workers have few opportunities to exercise on weekdays, so they save the week's exercise for the weekend. Excessive exercise leads to "weekend motion sickness."

Experts point out that when you encounter a sports injury, if you have some experience, you can take some treatment and go to the hospital for further examination to determine the extent of the injury.

After arriving at the hospital, you should describe the injury process, pain location, pain severity, etc. to the doctor accurately and in detail, and do some necessary examinations, such as X-rays, B-ultrasound, and MRI.

The following are common sports injuries, and you can refer to their treatment methods.

Muscle and ligament injuries

Muscle and ligament injury refers to injury caused by tearing of muscle fibers. The muscles are suddenly and violently contracted or passively stretched beyond their capacity.

The internal causes are mainly insufficient flexibility, strength, coordination, poor physiological structure, etc.; the external causes are insufficient warm-up exercises, inappropriate venue, temperature, humidity, etc.

Processing

The acute phase is within 24 hours after the injury. You need to stop exercising and apply ice or a cold towel to the painful area for 30 minutes to allow the small blood vessels to contract and reduce local congestion and edema. Avoid rubbing or applying hot compresses.

After 24 hours it is the recovery period, during which you need to cooperate with massage, micro-movement and rehabilitation exercises under the guidance of a doctor. Generally, functional exercises of the injured part need to be performed under the guidance of a doctor 3 to 4 weeks after the injury.

Muscle strain generally does not require special treatment. If the pain is unbearable, you can take anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs such as Voltaren. If symptoms persist for a long time, it is recommended to see a hospital.

Patellar joint pain

Joint sprains are common in sports injuries among adolescents and work injuries among manual laborers, and often occur in the ankle, wrist and lower back.

Common symptoms include pain, swelling, and reduced joint mobility. To prevent joint sprains, you can do sufficient warm-up exercises before exercise, slow down during exercise, do things within your ability, and proceed step by step.

Processing

The acute phase is 24 hours ago, and you should stop exercising immediately, apply cold compresses, bandage, and elevate the injured part. If the pain is severe, you can take blood-activating and analgesic drugs.

After 24 hours, it is the recovery period, and rehabilitation or restorative exercises are required under the guidance of a doctor.

Sprained joints

The main symptom is patellar pain when going up and down stairs, sitting in a car for a long time, or squatting for too long, which can easily be treated as rheumatism.

Frequent walking, going up and down stairs, and squatting can easily cause excessive load on the knee joint and lead to patellar joint pain.

Processing

During the acute 24-hour pain phase, ice can be applied to the painful area, and heat therapy can be performed after the symptoms are relieved. Each heat treatment should not exceed 15 minutes.

When doing activities such as walking, climbing stairs, and climbing mountains, you should do it within your ability and choose a speed and distance that suits you.

Abrasions

Abrasions are the most common minor injuries and are caused by sharp friction against the skin. It is usually caused by the friction of blunt mechanical force, resulting in damage with epidermal peeling and curling as the main manifestations. It can appear as scratches, scrapes, bumps, indentations, and pressure scratches, etc.

Processing

For minor abrasions, if the injured area is clean, just apply some mercurochrome or gentian violet and it will heal in a few days.

If the wound is deep and contaminated, it needs to be cleaned with cool boiled water or soapy water, then applied with mercurochrome, gentian violet or antibiotic ointment, and then bandaged. It will heal after a few days.

Severely contaminated wounds require an injection of tetanus antitoxin in the hospital; facial abrasions must be treated promptly to prevent infection and avoid leaving scar tissue.

Many people are accustomed to putting a Band-Aid on a skin abrasion, but this is not appropriate because the wound of a skin abrasion is larger than that of an ordinary wound. Ordinary Band-Aids have poor water absorption and breathability, which is not conducive to the drainage of wound secretions and pus. Instead, it is conducive to the growth and reproduction of bacteria, causing wound inflammation and even ulcers.
