What equipment do you need for rock climbing?

Rock climbing is an inherently dangerous sport, because when you go rock climbing, you must first check your equipment. Safety equipment is essential. Rock climbing equipment is part of the sport and is also a guarantee of safety for climbers, especially when climbing natural rock walls. Therefore, we should take good care of our equipment and keep it properly. Now let’s take a look at the equipment needed for rock climbing.

1. The main rope can be divided into dynamic rope and static rope, and they have different elasticity. The elastic coefficient of the power rope is 6% to 8%. A 100-meter power rope can extend 6 to 8 meters when subjected to a force of 80 kg. This will provide a buffer for climbers when they fall off, reducing the impact. Dynamic ropes are the main tool for various rock climbing activities. Static ropes have very little extensibility, with an elasticity of about 2%, and are generally used for descending and caving.

2. The safety belt is worn by the climber to bear the weight and impact caused by the climber falling off or falling. The waist belt of the seat belt is the stress-bearing part, while the rest of the leg straps are designed for comfort and convenience. Safety belts with wide and thick sponge pads on the waist and leg straps are comfortable but bulky, suitable for indoor climbing and route setting. Lightweight safety belts are needed for competitive climbing. When doing traditional climbing or tool climbing, the number and position of equipment rings should be considered.

3. The iron lock is a metal ring that can be opened and closed freely, connecting various protective devices and equipment together. The threaded iron lock can lock the iron door in a closed state when the screws are tightened, avoiding the danger of accidentally opening it; ordinary iron locks do not have threaded devices, are light in weight, and easy to operate, and can be used for temporary protection points. If ordinary locks are used for fixed protection, the principle of double iron locks and double-door openings must be followed. The longitudinal tensile force of the iron lock is greater than the transverse tensile force; when the iron lock door is opened, the longitudinal tensile force will decrease; the iron lock door is the weakest link and cannot be directly subjected to force. The correct way to use it is to keep the iron lock door closed and subjected to longitudinal force.

4. When the main rope passes through the protector in the correct way, its special structure can increase friction, so that the braking end of the main rope only needs a smaller grip to control the larger weight of the force-bearing end.

5. Flat belt: A soft belt-like object that is mechanically sewn or manually knotted into closed loops of varying lengths to provide a soft connection between protective devices.

6. Quick draw: An iron lock is connected to each end of the flat belt to form a quick draw. When in use, one end is buckled into the protection point and the other end is connected to the human safety belt or main rope, which makes operation convenient.

The iron locks at both ends of the quick draw are not threaded, so there is a risk of accidentally opening or pressing open, so when there is only one quick draw, it cannot be used as a fixed protection point.

7. Rock plugs: Metal products of different specifications and shapes can be placed in rock cracks, caves, stone bridges and other terrains and fixed to become protection points.

The above is a brief introduction to the equipment needed for rock climbing. Today's lifestyles are diverse, and we need to choose the one that suits us to better utilize the functions of our equipment. You can also choose some simpler exercises to improve your physical fitness. It is better to develop good living and eating habits and avoid eating irritating foods.
