What are the causes of swimming injuries?

Whether you are an amateur swimming enthusiast or a professional swimmer, you will suffer some injuries during the sport of swimming, such as strained foot muscles or leg muscles, or bruises and bumps, etc. In any sports activity, injuries are inevitable. For example, some people may experience leg muscle cramps when swimming, but this phenomenon can actually be avoided.

Foot muscle cramps are more common than injuries to other parts of the body during swimming. According to statistics, one-third of the team members complain of foot pain during the first week of swimming training. After a period of training, everyone in the team will admit that they have experienced cramps in the muscles of their feet. " Foot muscle cramps can have a very negative impact on an athlete's training.

Foot muscle cramps are caused by prolonged flexion of the arch of the foot. When muscles are in motion, they produce a lot of waste products such as carbon dioxide and lactic acid. Under normal circumstances, carbon dioxide is transported out of the body through blood vessels. However, when muscles are in a state of contraction for a long time, their blood vessels also contract as the muscles contract. In other words, these wastes cannot be transported away in time, so they remain in the blood vessels for a long time, preventing the muscles from relaxing.

Before entering the water, athletes are advised to do some foot stretching exercises and massage their feet. Such preparatory movements can help muscles quickly eliminate harmful substances and reduce the incidence of muscle spasms.

But what should you do if you experience leg muscle cramps while swimming? In fact, the solution is very simple. At this time, you should immediately slow down the movements, and keep your thigh fixed in one position and stretch it as much as possible until the pain completely disappears. Or when your leg muscles cramp, immediately put your feet on tiptoe and exert your whole body strength, and the cramp will disappear.
