What are the basic skills of playing badminton?

Badminton is a common sport in our lives. This sport is widely practiced by many people and is particularly helpful for strengthening the body. However, there are many friends who have never played badminton. It is also particularly difficult for beginners to play badminton. Therefore, the basic skills of playing badminton are particularly important for beginners who want to play badminton. Let us learn about it below and hope it will be helpful to our friends.

one. Starting Position

Grip

Hold the Bagua in a holding position, with the index finger and thumb holding the grip surface parallel to the racket face, and the remaining three fingers holding the grip tightly. When swinging for a forehand, the index finger is raised and the thumb is slightly retracted. When swinging for a backhand, the thumb is raised and the index finger is retracted.

Be careful not to hold the racket too tightly, which will cause the racket to be inflexible.

How to hold a badminton

You can hold the badminton any way you like. The first condition for serving is accuracy, so any way of holding the ball will do as long as it can keep it stable.

There are two common ways to hold a badminton:

1. Lightly pinch the tip of the feather with your fingers, with the ball part facing downward.

2. Use your five fingers to lightly hold the ball above the butt, with the butt facing downward.

No matter which method you use to hold the ball, you should train yourself to be able to hit the ball in a certain position.

How to hit the ball

There are two ways to hit the ball:

Toss the ball:

Throw the badminton down with one hand and swing the racket with the other hand at the same time, so that the intersection of the trajectory of the front end of the racket and the landing point of the badminton becomes the instantaneous hitting point. This method involves a larger movement and the ball is hit more powerfully, flying high and far.

Serve without dropping the ball:

This way of serving is like retracting the arm holding the racket and touching the racket with the hand holding the badminton. This serving method has a smaller range of motion and can use short hits to hit the ball into the opponent's receiving court.

High serve

This type of serve is to hit the ball near the end line of the opponent's court, dropping it vertically from a very high position, with the aim of making the opponent retreat.

It is easier to serve by tossing the ball. The posture is to put the left foot forward and the right foot behind, gently toss the ball up, and swing the racket as the ball leaves your hand. It is best to bend your arms and hit the ball in the instant before straightening them. Use the twist of your wrist to swing the racket above your left shoulder, allowing the ball to fly high and far.

Short low serve

The goal is to hit the ball near the opponent's front serving line. It is best to control the ball at a height just above the net to prevent the opponent from launching an offensive. Serve without tossing the ball.

Hit the ball the same way you would a badminton to hit the racket, with your arm bent and using a smaller swing motion. Avoid quick and intense movements as much as possible and send the ball out with a light push, either with a forehand or backhand.

Because throwing the ball up requires a large preparatory movement, it is easy for the opponent to predict that you are going to hit a high ball; but at this time the server can suddenly reduce the strength and serve a short and low ball instead, catching the opponent off guard. Similarly, you can also use the no-toss serve method to make the opponent think that you are going to serve a short and low ball, and temporarily hit a high and far ball or a flat ball. These are all strategies for serving.

two. Free to express

Forehand swing

Long ball - when preparing to hit the ball, turn sideways in a bow posture. If you are right-handed, put your right foot behind and use your left hand to lock the flight of the ball. If you are left-handed, do the opposite. When hitting the ball, relax your wrist, straighten your arm, and raise the racket face.

Smash and backcourt slice - the swing method is similar to the long ball, the difference is that the racket face is facing downward when hitting the ball, and the force is reduced when sliced.

Backhand swing

Turn your back to the direction the ball is traveling. If you hold the racket right-handed, step your right foot to the left, lock the ball with your right hand, and use your wrist to control the angle of the racket face to hit a long ball, slice or smash.

three. footwork

Tips for running the M-step

The general preparation position is to stand about half a step behind the front serving line, with both feet across the center line. Estimate how many steps it takes to move forward to the net and raise the racket to the two corners in front of the net. It is generally two to three steps, depending on the size of your personal steps, and step back about three to four steps. If it is an odd number, step forward with the right foot first, and if it is an even number, step directly with the left foot.

In short, when preparing to hit the ball, whether moving forward or backward, the center of gravity is on the right foot, and moving sideways. The above is for those who hold the racket with the right hand. The opposite is true for the left hand. The so-called "M" step is to practice running in this way, running to the left and right sides, four corners, and straight forward and backward to form eight points to form a "M".

Four. Serve and hit

Serving is the most difficult stroke in badminton (controlling the flight of the ball).

There are very detailed and strict restrictions on serving methods in badminton rules. Simply put, the ball must be hit from bottom to top, and you must wait until the opponent's receiver is ready before you serve. You should not launch an offensive right from the start like in other games such as volleyball, table tennis, tennis, etc., in the hope of scoring by serving.

Therefore, being able to serve the ball stably at any time is equivalent to controlling the situation. Therefore, serving is the most important batting technique.

Through the above introduction, we now know the basic skills of playing badminton. When we first start learning, we must strictly master the above skills, which is especially helpful for having a good start. In addition, when learning, we must be humble and seriously demonstrate and learn each movement, and slowly we will master all of them until we are proficient.
