What are gymnastics?

The radio gymnastics that primary school students do every day and the gymnastics that various athletes train in their daily lives all belong to the category of what we usually call gymnastics. The only difference is the training methods and purposes of these gymnastics exercises. Gymnastics covers a wide range of sports, including athletic, bodybuilding and competitive types. So what are the gymnastics sports? Let’s take a look at the introduction.

Based on the purpose and tasks, gymnastics can be divided into two categories: basic gymnastics and competitive gymnastics.

Basic gymnastics refers to a type of gymnastics with relatively simple movements and techniques. Its main purpose and task is to strengthen the body and cultivate good body posture. Its main target audience is the general public. The most common ones include radio gymnastics and fitness gymnastics for preventing and treating various occupational diseases. Competitive gymnastics, as the name suggests, refers to a type of gymnastics whose main purpose is to win, achieve excellent results, and compete for medals in competitions. This type of gymnastics movements are difficult, technically complex, and somewhat thrilling. Those who engage in this type of gymnastics training are mainly athletes.

At present, competitive gymnastics includes five sports: artistic gymnastics, artistic gymnastics, aerobics, skills and trampoline. Among them, the men's competitive gymnastics events include floor exercise, pommel horse, rings, vaulting horse, parallel bars and horizontal bar, while the women's events include vaulting horse, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise. Since competitive gymnastics has the longest history and can be said to be the "big brother" of competitive gymnastics, people still usually use "gymnastics" to refer to "competitive gymnastics".

Through the above introduction, I believe everyone has already known that gymnastics can be divided into two categories according to their purpose and tasks: basic gymnastics and competitive gymnastics. Basic gymnastics are gymnastics that are mainly for exercise and fitness, and are performed by the general public; competitive gymnastics are classified more broadly, but without exception, they are gymnastics that are performed for the purpose of competition.
