Is swimming an aerobic exercise?

To put it simply, aerobic exercise means exercising in an environment with sufficient oxygen. For those who want to lose weight, aerobic exercise is a good choice. There are also many types of aerobic exercise. You can choose the one that suits you, making your body more perfect and bringing your athletic cells to the extreme. Many people like swimming, but few know whether swimming is an aerobic exercise.

The benefits of aerobic exercise are: it can increase oxygen intake and better consume excess calories in the body. That is to say, during exercise, the amount of oxygen inhaled by the human body is equal to its demand, reaching a state of physiological balance. Therefore, it is characterized by low intensity, rhythm and long duration. Each exercise should last no less than 1 hour and should be done 3 to 5 times a week. Through this kind of exercise, oxygen can fully break down sugar in the body, consume body fat, enhance and improve cardiopulmonary function, prevent osteoporosis, and regulate psychological and mental state. It is the main form of exercise for fitness.

Anaerobic exercise refers to the high-speed and intense movement of muscles in a state of "oxygen deprivation". Most anaerobic exercises are high-intensity and instantaneous, so they are difficult to sustain for a long time and fatigue is eliminated slowly. The biggest feature of anaerobic exercise is that the oxygen intake during exercise is very low. Due to the excessive speed and explosive power, the sugar in the human body does not have time to be decomposed by oxygen and has to rely on "anaerobic energy supply". This type of exercise will produce too much lactic acid in the body, leading to unsustainable muscle fatigue, muscle soreness and shortness of breath after exercise. If you want to make your body stronger, you can go to the gym to do anaerobic exercises. However, when exercising, it is best to follow the guidance of your coach and choose a training plan that suits you.

Generally speaking, swimming is an aerobic exercise, but short-distance races of 50 meters or less should be classified as anaerobic exercise!

So if you spend a little more time swimming, it can be considered aerobic exercise. In fact, swimming is also a good way to lose weight and it is quite effective. However, the most important thing for swimming is warm-up, because swimming will mobilize the muscles of the whole body, so you must pay attention to make adequate preparations for exercise beforehand.
