Regarding the feeling of ear pain, no matter what the cause is, patients should pay great attention to it. Some patients experience ear pain after exercising, for example, running and swimming are the most likely times to cause ear pain. At this time, you should consider whether you have otitis media. The following article will specifically explain the reasons for ear pain after exercise.

What to do if your ears hurt after swimming?

1. Acute otitis media requires medical treatment. After taking medication, it can be cured in about 10 to 14 days. During this period, swimming is prohibited and you must be especially careful when washing your hair to prevent water from entering your ears.

2. If your ears itch or feel as if they are blocked by foreign objects after swimming, or if you feel pain when you turn your head or pull your ears, you should first consider the possibility of external otitis. People with allergies, psoriasis, eczema or seborrheic dermatitis should be careful.

3. After swimming, immediately rinse the ear canal with a 1:1 mixture of alcohol and vinegar to prevent infection. Alcohol helps to remove moisture in the ear canal, and vinegar can change the pH value in the ear canal. 2% acetic acid drops, 5 drops each time, 3 times a day, for 1 day can change the acidity and alkalinity of the external auditory canal. Treatment for otitis externa is with topical ear drops.

4. Use suction or a dry cotton swab to gently clean the infected desquamation in the external auditory canal, and then use 0.5% neomycin sulfate ear drops, which can effectively treat common infections. 5 drops each time, 3 times a day, for 7 days. Adding 1% hydrocortisone can reduce swelling and enhance the effectiveness of acetic acid.

5. Within the first 24 to 48 hours of onset, dry hot compresses can help relieve pain and speed up recovery. If topical antibiotics are ineffective, oral antistreptococcal antibiotics can be used instead for 7 days. External auditory canal furuncle should be allowed to rupture and drain on its own.

6. The easiest way to deal with a headache after swimming is to raise your head as high as possible. Leaning your head sideways will aggravate ear pain.

7. Cover your ears with a wrung-out hot towel once every two hours for 10 to 15 minutes each time.

8. Warm the mineral oil or baby oil slightly until lukewarm, and use an ear dropper to slowly drip the oil into the ear canal, but if you see or feel liquid coming out of the ear, do not drip the oil. It is actually a good thing if something flows out. When the eardrum is injured, pus will flow out, which serves as a warning. If you understand the source of the pain, you can deal with it and recover quickly.

9. Eat one or two cloves of garlic a day. Garlic has natural antiviral properties and is a natural antibiotic. If you don't like fresh garlic, try garlic capsules, which are available in pharmacies and health food stores. Take pain relievers. Take over-the-counter pain relievers.
