Seven techniques for the flop high jump

Seven techniques for the flop high jump

The flop is a type of high jump that features a graceful posture and makes it easier to achieve good results. It is the main method of passing the bar used by high jumpers in many international competitions. To master the flop high jump, you need to learn a lot of techniques, and each movement needs to be practiced repeatedly and refined in order to achieve good results in the competition.

1. After the head and shoulders pass the horizontal bar, promptly raise your head, lower your shoulders, extend your body, straighten your hips, and then retract your legs to form a back arch posture on the bar. At the same time, keep the center of gravity of your body as close to the horizontal bar as possible to make full use of the flying height.

2. After the center of gravity of the body has moved over the horizontal bar, you should accelerate and swing your legs upward over the horizontal bar. After passing the bar, land on the mat on your back.

3. Pay attention to the running line. Run rhythmically without slowing down at first and not speeding up later. Accelerate when turning, put your left foot close to the mat, and swing your right leg to turn your whole body around. Be sure to jump up and don't fall back in a hurry.

4. You need to do back exercises in the air, and retract your legs quickly after passing the bar, otherwise you will hit the bar.

5. The run-up for high jump will result in an outward-facing running posture, and the correct position at the final take-off should still be along the arc direction. Incorrect technique often results in an incorrect take-off position, causing the route of the last step to deviate from the natural extension of the arc, making it impossible to take off correctly, and the upper body will fall towards the bar prematurely. The reason is that before starting, you have the intention to avoid the bar or are eager to do the movement of facing away from the bar, so the take-off leg subconsciously deviates from the take-off point.

6. The direction of the toes in the last step of high jump is as important as the take-off. Incorrect foot position will also have a great impact on the take-off. Usually beginners' toes will naturally abduct when taking off, forming an outward-facing foot-dropping action. This foot-dropping technique will cause the lateral horizontal speed to be too high when taking off, resulting in a pole-striking phenomenon. 2. It is easy to cause injury to the ankle joint.

7. The high jump is done by facing the bar with your back towards it. However, people cannot run with their backs to the horizontal bar, so they must use an arc run-up. In the front part of the run-up, obtain a relatively high running speed. When approaching the take-off, use the arc run-up to make the body naturally turn to face the back of the horizontal bar. At the same time, the arc run-up can make the human body obtain centrifugal force towards the horizontal bar, helping the athlete to cross the horizontal bar.
