Backstroke breathing techniques

When summer comes, people especially like swimming. There are many ways to swim, but backstroke is the most popular swimming posture. The most important thing in backstroke is to master the breathing technique. If the breathing control is not good enough during backstroke, it is very easy to cause breathing difficulties, which can disrupt the arm swing frequency, cause twitching of hands and feet, and may even lead to drowning and death. It is particularly important to master the backstroke breathing technique.

The first step is to breathe at the correct rhythm and develop breathing arms

As long as you exhale through your nose and mouth when there is the most water on your face, you will not choke on water. In each stroke cycle, air is exhaled through the nose and mouth when the upper arm enters the water, and air is inhaled through the mouth when the arm is moved in the air, thus forming a complete breathing rhythm. Breathing arm, right breathing arm, every time the right arm enters the water, exhale through the nose and mouth, and inhale through the mouth when the right arm comes out of the water. Through repeated training, you can swim the one-arm backstroke in splits, develop your breathing arm, and determine the correct breathing rhythm, so you won’t choke on water.

The second step is to combine the breathing and arm movements of the backstroke

The breathing method of backstroke is simpler than the other three swimming styles, but it also needs to be mastered. The breathing method for backstroke is generally to stroke twice and breathe once. The breathing should not be too frequent and should be rhythmic, otherwise it will cause insufficient breathing and disordered movements. When doing backstroke, breathe through the mouth. The coordination of arms and breathing is: start inhaling when one arm moves, then hold your breath for a short time, and exhale when the other arm moves, and repeat this cycle.

The third step is to focus on the coordination of backstroke breathing and arm and leg movements

The legs, arms, and breathing are fully coordinated during backstroke. Generally, the method is to kick six times, stroke the arms twice, and breathe once. Although there is no need to breathe and breathing is not restricted during backstroke, it is best to use a rhythmic breathing method, or to inhale when moving the arm with one fixed arm. After all, there will be waves and splashes when paddling and the body moving in the water, and random breathing can easily lead to choking.

The last step is to focus on body balance.

Keep your body balanced when doing backstroke and don't breathe in through your nose. If you do this, you won't choke on water. Since the face is always above water during backstroke, you can breathe whenever you need to, but you must avoid breathing too shallowly or too quickly and develop good breathing habits.
