Yin Yoga, as the name suggests, is to let go of the positive mode (control, change and confrontation), switch to the negative energy, vision and state, enter into acceptance, gentleness and meditation, and implement the abstract theory of Yin and Yang into the current feelings of the body through postures, thereby allowing Yin energy to penetrate all levels of body, energy, emotion and awareness, and realize a system of yoga through the "eternal self" surrendering to "suchness". Yin yoga is a style of yoga founded by American yoga instructor Paul Grilley in 1979 and has many practitioners. He himself is a doctor of medicine. Combining his yoga practice experience and advantages in medicine, he worked with several Japanese scholars to carefully study the connective tissue of the human body, blending the essence of Chinese Taoism and martial arts, and at the same time combining the essence of yoga to form a novel school. Yin Yoga is not another branch of yoga or another name, but it is a relatively new style that is recognized and accepted by everyone. Yin Yoga emphasizes the relaxation of the whole body, clearing all distracting thoughts and combining slow and natural breathing, and maintaining movements for a long time. It exercises the bones and connective tissues, regulates the nervous system, and enhances endurance while the muscles are completely relaxed to achieve a state of unity of body and mind. The practitioner's primary task is to achieve this subtle shift in internal consciousness, a shift in attitude and perspective from yang to yin, not just a change in posture. Yin Yoga calls for the practice of entering a deeper, more natural and yet more expansive knowing, fully experiencing one's own limitations, powerlessness and vulnerability without identifying, correcting or judging them. Therefore, Yin Yoga is a practice method that opens up awareness and introspective meditation in the field of asanas, and is a transition from practice that pursues physical effects to memory awareness training. Style features: First, the emphasis is on stretching the connective tissues of the body's bones, the ligaments, lubricants and periosteum between the bones, using yoga postures. Each movement is kept still for a period of time, 3-5 minutes, sometimes even 10 minutes. The main parts exercised are the pelvis and lower back. Therefore, during the practice, the emphasis is on stretching the body, moving slowly, and staying within one's own limits for a long time to achieve good results. This is also its biggest feature. Second, breathe slowly and slowly, and keep still for a long time to allow the body's muscles to completely relax, thereby stretching the skeletal connective tissue. Third, let your feelings go inward and focus on your own experience. Fourth, it exercises one’s endurance and lays a good meditation foundation for the practice of yoga. From the perspective of the human body, blood and muscles are yang, while bones and internal organs are yin, but this understanding is relative. Yin and yang cannot develop at the same time or in the same way. The two must cooperate with each other to achieve balance. The emphasis is on stretching muscles, massaging internal organs, strengthening the spine, coordinating slow and long breathing, regulating the nervous system, and achieving a state of unity of body and mind. Most of the yoga we practice normally belongs to Yang Yoga. Target group: Men, women, young and old can all practice this. Practitioners with bone injuries need to consult a doctor for consent before practicing. In each pose, feel the beneficial pain with care and tenderness. From feeling the breath extending to the pain in the center - the following passage about pain: "Pain - In Yin Yoga poses, we will actually experience a long period of "pain". The definition of pain: Most of the time, 90% of physical pain comes from psychological identification, and when the mind identifies, it gives it energy. When entering the pose, we always hope to stretch more. We will listen to the voice of the mind (ego). The mind will issue instructions to the body: command the body to reach a certain level, but the current physical state is not as the mind wishes, so pain occurs, and troubles, anxiety, and injuries also occur. When practicing poses, we should listen more to the voice of the body. The body is full of wisdom and it will tell you all the answers. When our hearts are still rough, we have no ability to distinguish whether this pain is safe or whether it is within our tolerance range. This is an exercise without awareness and wisdom. When we grit our teeth and persist in practicing, it is harmful to our body. When pain comes, our first thought is to push it away or say no! Try to let go of the definition of pain in your mind and don’t be attached to it. When you first start practicing Yin Yoga, try to temporarily name the pain as stretching, pulling, or soreness, numbness, throbbing, flow, etc. Just watch these feelings. When there is no struggle, reluctance, or comparison in your heart, you can accept these feelings calmly and naturally. When your heart is open to acceptance, all the feelings you experience will be transformed, changed, and even dissolved. The feeling of pain is just a definition given by the mind, and all other feelings are just definitions given by the mind. Everything is just an illusion, and nothing is permanent. Each Yin Yoga class is a process of deep dialogue between your mind and body. While pausing in each pose and with each breath, go deep into the area of your body that is vulnerable or uncomfortable. Look at the feelings of that part with awareness and loving kindness. Fully accept your body, including all the sounds inside your mind. Experience it all, breathe, relax, and remind yourself that this moment is the only one you truly have. Once you are able to calm down and listen, without expecting or forcing things to happen, and just be in that wonderful moment, "things" will happen naturally. This process is peaceful and beautiful. And this kind of tranquility is always there. Look inward, and one day you may suddenly discover that there is a place of tranquility deep in your heart. ” |
