Dizziness and nausea when standing upside down

Handstand is a very popular form of exercise in life. It is very effective for people's physical exercise. In addition, handstand can strengthen arm strength, enhance trunk coordination, etc. However, handstand can also easily bring some side effects to people and affect their physical health. For example, some people will experience symptoms of dizziness and vomiting. Let's take a look at why handstand causes dizziness and vomiting?

Changes in body position

When the human body is in an upright state, the blood is affected by gravity and may be concentrated in the sagging parts of the body. If one suddenly does a handstand, the head will be lower than the heart, and the readjustment of blood will be slower than the change in body position. The brain is prone to short-term hypoxia and ischemia, causing symptoms of dizziness and nausea. This situation is the same as raising your head after bowing it for a long time, or standing up after squatting for a long time.

Otolithiasis caused

There is a part in the human inner ear called the macula, on its surface is a layer of otolith membrane containing calcium carbonate crystals, which helps the body maintain a sense of balance. If the body does a handstand and suddenly changes the position of the head, the otoliths may fall into the semicircular canals in the inner ear, affecting the blood circulation in the ear and causing symptoms such as dizziness and nausea.

Doing handstand on an empty stomach

Doing a handstand on an empty stomach can easily lead to insufficient heat supply in the body, causing a drop in blood sugar levels, leading to exercise-induced hypoglycemia, and causing symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and dizziness.

Incorrect breathing method

Many people use incorrect breathing methods when practicing handstand, such as holding their breath, breathing with their mouth wide open, breathing too quickly and too rapidly, etc., which will hinder their breathing, cause breathing difficulties, and cause dizziness and nausea.

Poor physical condition

If you are in a poor physical condition due to illness, fatigue, lack of sleep, etc., doing a handstand can easily cause dizziness, exhaustion, nausea and other discomforts.

Holding a handstand for too long

In order to achieve good results, some people practice handstand for half an hour or even longer at a time, which will cause congestion in the brain and cause headaches, dizziness, nausea, tinnitus and other discomforts.

Disease factors

People who suffer from low blood pressure, high blood pressure, cervical spondylosis, and anemia are more likely to experience dizziness and nausea if they do a handstand.
