At the same time, researchers used modern sports and natural science knowledge to conduct scientific research and experiments on the fitness effects of Ba Duan Jin.

It is said that "Eight-Section Brocade" originated from Han Zhongli, one of the Eight Immortals, and was spread by Lu Dongbin after being carved on a stone wall. Some people also say that it was created by Yue Fei. In 1972, archaeologists unearthed the 2,100-year-old Daoyin Diagram while excavating the Mawangdui Han Tomb in Changsha. The Daoyin Diagram is a compilation of movements from ancient Chinese Daoyin Shu, which is a type of modern Qigong. The guiding diagram of the Mawangdui Han Tomb depicts more than 40 exercise postures, among which at least four are similar to the movements in the Eight-Section Brocade that was widely circulated later. It is regarded by the academic community as having a close relationship with the Eight-Section Brocade.

The name "Ba Duan Jin" was first seen in Yi Jian Zhi, a book written by Hong Mai in the Northern Song Dynasty.

Si Ju was an attendant. He imitated the Taoist's bear-jerking and bird-stretching techniques and was very happy with them. He often got up in the middle of the night, breathing and massaging to perform the so-called Eight-Section Brocade. It can be seen that Ba Duan Jin had already been popular in the Northern Song Dynasty. In the Song Dynasty, there were already two styles of Ba Duan Jin: sitting and standing. Among them, the standing Ba Duan Jin later formed many schools and was widely spread. In the late Qing Dynasty, people compiled Ba Duan Jin into a complete routine for the first time and drew pictures. Its rhyme summarizes the movements and purpose of Ba Duan Jin as follows:

Hold your hands up to the sky to regulate your triple burner, and draw your bow to the left and right like shooting an eagle.

To regulate the spleen and stomach, you must focus on it, and look forward to the five kinds of fatigue and seven kinds of injuries.

Shaking your head and tail can relieve heart heat, while holding your feet with both hands can strengthen your kidneys and waist.

Clenching fists and glaring will increase your strength, and shaking your back seven times will eliminate all diseases.

The introduction of modern life science, medicine, human morphology and other methods has endowed the creation of Health Qigong Ba Duan Jin with new rational and scientific connotations. The completion and promotion of the Health Qigong Ba Duan Jin also proves that the ancient Ba Duan Jin has not been lost in the long river of time.
