Does running hurt your knees?

Exercise is good for physical and mental health, and it also helps with weight loss. Nowadays, more and more people are choosing running, hoping to achieve the goal of promoting physical and mental health through this method. Some people also lose weight through running. Regardless of the purpose, running requires certain methods and techniques, otherwise it may cause some sports injuries. What worries many runners is, will running damage the knees?

However, a Swedish study found that running is beneficial to joint health.

For the study, researchers asked one group of people at risk for arthritis to run daily and another group to not exercise. Magnetic resonance imaging technology showed that runners' cartilage health was significantly improved, indicating that running is beneficial to joint health. Orthopedic doctors say that running can stimulate the cartilage to repair some minor injuries to itself, and the impact of the human body on the ground will promote the synthesis of specific proteins in the cartilage, making it stronger. Epidemiologists at Boston University School of Medicine say that when people reach a certain age, such as 40, they lose some cartilage every year. If you have no knee problems, running 5-6 times a week at a moderate pace will keep your cartilage and joints healthy.

In fact, whether running hurts your knees depends on whether you run in the right way, and has nothing to do with the sport of running itself. In recent years, there have even been many research reports pointing out that running does not cause any more damage to the knees than walking. In fact, running can help exercise the muscles around the legs and knees, slowing down the degeneration of the knees, so you don’t have to rely on supplements and still have healthy and strong knees when you are old.

Running is indeed a very good way to exercise. As long as you master the correct running posture, choose a good pair of running shoes for yourself, and do not run excessively, it generally will not cause adverse damage to the knees. Friends should not worry about this. It should be noted that no matter what the purpose of running is, you must persist.
