Obsessed with beer? The dangers of beer belly

Don’t think that a beer belly simply affects your body shape. It may also cause high blood pressure or high blood lipid problems. Therefore, you must pay attention to a reasonable and healthy diet and exercise more to prevent the formation of a beer belly.

1. The bigger the waist circumference, the more likely you are to suffer from high blood pressure

Obesity and high blood pressure are closely related. If the waist circumference increases between the ages of 20 and 30, the incidence of hypertension is 1 times higher than that of people with normal waist circumference of the same age; if the waist circumference increases between the ages of 40 and 50, the incidence of hypertension is 50% higher than that of people with normal waist circumference of the same age.

2. More prone to hyperlipidemia

Studies have shown that people with abdominal obesity have several times higher risks of developing hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia than ordinary people. In addition, low-density lipoprotein and very low-density lipoprotein levels often increase abnormally, while high-density lipoprotein levels, which should be high, decrease instead.

3. More susceptible to cerebral atherosclerosis

The blood vessels in men's brains are hard and fragile, and can easily rupture under the influence of high blood pressure, causing dangerous cerebral hemorrhage and even endangering their lives. Statistics show that the incidence of cerebral hemorrhage in men with increased waist circumference is 3.6 times that of normal men; studies have shown that when the degree of obesity is equal, the incidence of cerebral infarction in those with abdominal obesity (thick waist) is 3-5 times higher than that in those with hip obesity (hip obesity). Moreover, compared with people with normal waist circumference, people with thick waists have significantly reduced body recovery ability after stroke.

4. Prone to fatty liver

About half of obese people suffer from fatty liver. The liver is where triglycerides are synthesized, but there is not much extra space in the liver to store them. In obese people, the balance between triglyceride synthesis and transport is disturbed. Obese people consume more fatty acids, so the liver synthesizes more triglycerides. A large amount of triglycerides accumulate in the liver, resulting in fatty liver.

5. Prone to bone and joint diseases

There are three main types of bone and joint diseases that may be caused by obesity: osteoarthritis, diabetic osteoarthritis and gouty osteoarthritis. Among them, osteoarthritis is the most common and harmful. Osteoarthritis caused by obesity mainly affects the knee joints, and secondarily can affect the hip joints and finger joints.
