Outdoor Class: How to prevent blisters on your feet during long hikes

Blisters are caused by the softening of the epidermis due to sweat on the soles of the feet, and the long-term pressure and friction on the soles of the feet cause local tissue fluid to seep out. They are often related to factors such as shoes and socks, uneven walking roads, uneven speeds, and lack of exercise for hikers.

To prevent foot blisters, you must pay attention to:

First, the shoes and socks should fit properly. The shoes should not be too high or too small. It is best to wear half-new rubber shoes or cloth shoes. Lesbians should not wear high-heeled, hard-soled leather shoes. The insoles should be flat and the socks should be neither damaged nor wrinkled. Sand in shoes should be removed promptly and shoes and socks should be kept dry; secondly, hiking should be done step by step, starting with near places and then moving on to far places. The steps should be even and the landing should be steady, not fast or slow at the same time;

Third, soak your feet in hot water before going to bed to promote local fluid circulation. Massage the soles of the feet with your hands or apply kerosene on the protruding parts of the soles of the feet. In addition, you can also use medication for prevention. Take 4 liang each of Chuanxiong, Asarum, Saposhnikovia divaricata, and Angelica dahurica, add 5 jin of water and boil until it becomes 3 jin. Apply it on the soles of your feet before hiking, once a day.

If blisters occur on the feet, there is currently no effective treatment, which mainly involves puncturing and draining the blisters. First, soak your feet in hot water for 5-10 minutes and wipe them dry. Then use iodine or alcohol to disinfect the blisters. Then use a sterilized needle (the needle can be soaked in boiling water or alcohol) to pierce the blisters and allow the liquid in the blisters to flow out along the foot and drain. You can also use a sterilized horsetail to pass through the blister to drain the water. However, when dealing with blisters on your feet, be sure not to cut off the blister skin to prevent infection.
