Why does my arm suddenly hurt?

Although some people like sports more than usual, they often experience arm pain, or they wake up at night and find that their arms are very painful in the morning. Some people will suspect that they have cervical spondylosis or periarthritis of the shoulder. There are many reasons for this, and it is mainly necessary to analyze what are the causes? The editor has the following opinions.

Numbness and pain in the hands are common symptoms among white-collar workers. In most cases, we think that this is caused by cervical spondylosis and periarthritis of the shoulder. However, doctors remind everyone that numbness and pain in the hands may also be "thoracic outlet syndrome."

This scene is often seen in office buildings: white-collar workers sit for several hours with their eyes fixed on the computer and their hands stretched forward on the computer keyboard. Over time, most people in this group will experience arm numbness, arm soreness, upper limb weakness and even muscle atrophy. Many people think that this is caused by cervical spondylosis or periarthritis of the shoulder.

Professor Gu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of the Department of Hand Surgery at Huashan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University, reminds us: Hand numbness is not necessarily due to cervical spondylosis, it may very well be a modern civilization disease - "thoracic outlet syndrome".

The lower trunk of the brachial plexus mainly consists of the median nerve and ulnar nerve of the upper limb. The median nerve mainly innervates the wrist and finger flexors, thenar muscles, and the sensation of fingers 1 to 3. The ulnar nerve mainly innervates the wrist and finger flexor muscles, hypothenar muscles, internal hand muscles and the sensation of the 4th and 5th fingers on the inner side of the forearm. Since the ulnar nerve mainly innervates the intrinsic muscles of the hand (16 and a half out of a total of 19 muscles), it is closely related to the fine movements of the hand.

According to professional analysis, it is very likely a phenomenon of neuralgia. The best way is to go to the hospital for a bone CT scan to find out the cause. Considering that this problem has a greater impact on the nerves, massage, physical therapy and other physical conditioning methods are needed. Stimulating the nerves can help recover from the disease. If the pain is severe, you need to take some painkillers to avoid behavioral disorders.
