Are sit-ups okay after a cesarean section?

For many women, it is difficult for their big belly to go down after giving birth, and they need to recover. Therefore, many people recommend doing sit-ups after giving birth. Sit-ups do have a good effect in reducing the belly, but not everyone is suitable for doing sit-ups immediately, especially those who have had a cesarean section. So how should you do sit-ups after a cesarean section? When is the best time to do it?

Experts recommend that mothers who have had a caesarean section should wait at least six weeks for the incision to heal and for the doctor to check that there are no major problems before doing sit-ups. Start by exercising your pelvic floor muscles (do this on the exhale, not the inhale), then draw your belly in and out (this is a lower abdominal muscle exercise). Once you can do this easily and can hold it for 10 seconds without holding your breath, you can slowly begin to do sit-ups. Keep your knees bent and your pelvic floor muscles and abdomen tense as you slowly lift your head and shoulders off the ground. If your abdominal muscles are still bulging when you sit up, or if you find it difficult or painful to sit up, it means that you started your sit-up training too early.

Even if you start exercising with the intention of getting a flat stomach, remember that there is no such thing as "spot fat reduction." While your belly may be the area you want to work on, the only way to help you shed those extra pregnancy pounds is with aerobic exercise like walking, jogging, swimming, or cycling. Start slowly and increase the amount of exercise gradually. At first you may only be able to do it for 10 to 15 minutes, but you will gradually get stronger.

Sit-ups are best done in conjunction with aerobic exercise. If you only do sit-ups, you may only tone the muscles underneath the excess fat, and you may not see much improvement from the outside.

It is best for people who have undergone cesarean section to wait until the wound has healed completely before doing sit-ups. If you do them too little, it can easily cause the wound to crack. Not only will it fail to achieve the effect of exercise, it may also cause harm to the body. If you want to get rid of the obesity caused by pregnancy, you can do various methods such as walking, jogging, and brisk walking. Sit-ups can only reduce the belly, and are not very effective for other aspects of weight loss.
