Why do muscles ache after exercise?

Many students feel back pain after several physical education classes, especially in the leg muscles, where the pain is more obvious. Some office workers do some exercise during their lunch break, but feel back pain afterwards. What is the cause of this? How can we prevent it? Many people have raised such questions. The editor has collected some information for us to learn about.

1. Causes of muscle soreness after exercise

Muscle soreness will occur whether you are doing unfamiliar physical activities or after overload training, especially for people who do not regularly exercise or those who have interrupted physical activities for a long time and are just returning to exercise. They often feel obvious muscle soreness after exercise. Depending on the time when muscle soreness occurs after exercise, it can be divided into immediate pain and delayed pain. Immediate pain refers to muscle soreness that can be felt soon after exercise, which generally disappears quickly on its own; delayed pain refers to muscle soreness that occurs 8-24 hours after exercise and can last two or three days or even longer.

It is generally believed that muscle soreness is caused by insufficient oxygen supply during muscle exercise, and the anaerobic decomposition of glycogen releases energy for muscle contraction. The anaerobic decomposition of glycogen produces a metabolic product called lactic acid. If it is not eliminated in time, lactic acid accumulates in the muscles and blood. Muscle soreness can be caused by factors such as tissue ischemia and hypoxia, stimulation of acidic substances, and exercise-induced muscle damage or muscle spasms.

2. Prevention and treatment of muscle soreness after exercise

Muscle soreness is a physiological phenomenon that occurs during exercise. Generally, it will disappear naturally after a few days after proper rest and adjustment.

Finally, the editor reminds everyone to pay more attention to their health and not forget to exercise every day no matter how busy you are at work or study. Even if it's just doing some simple, easy exercise when you wake up. Develop the habit of exercising regularly. After sitting for a long time, you must remember to stand up and do some stretching exercises. Don't keep your muscles in the same posture. This can also prevent various cervical and spinal diseases. It is best to have a hobby related to sports.
