Is walking better or running better?

Nowadays, people know the importance of health, so they develop the habit of running. The majority of office workers often go out for running in the evening, and many people choose to run in the morning. In addition, older people may not be suitable for running, but they can go out for more walks or brisk walks. Although this kind of exercise is relatively slow, it has many benefits. So which one is better, walking or running?

Is walking better or running better?

For people with high blood pressure, in addition to medication and diet, exercise therapy can also be used to lower blood pressure. Which is better for lowering blood pressure, walking or jogging? In fact, both walking therapy and jogging therapy are beneficial in lowering blood pressure, but they focus on different groups of people.

Walking therapy is suitable for almost all patients with hypertension. Its advantage is that the movements are gentle and not prone to injury. Of course, it also has disadvantages, namely, the amount of exercise is small and it is time-consuming. However, it is particularly suitable for elderly and obese patients with hypertension, and it is also very suitable for patients with hypertension and complications of heart, brain, and kidney.

Things to note when walking:

1. It is not advisable to wear leather shoes and high heels when walking;

2. If you are taking a walk after a meal, it is best to do it 30 minutes after the meal;

3. Hypertensive patients with concurrent heart, brain, and kidney diseases should not choose brisk walking.

Jogging therapy: suitable for patients with slowly progressive stage 1 hypertension. They can do some warm-up exercises before jogging.

Note: Do not run immediately after a meal, nor eat immediately after running;

2. It is best to breathe through your nose when jogging, and avoid breathing through your mouth to prevent nausea, vomiting, and coughing;

3. If you experience breathing difficulties, chest pain, palpitations, abdominal pain, etc. while jogging, you should slow down or stop running immediately, and go to the hospital for examination and treatment if necessary;

4. Before finishing jogging, you should gradually slow down or change to walking. Avoid stopping suddenly to avoid adverse reactions.

Both walking and jogging can help lower blood pressure, but you have to persist. Another thing to note is that exercise therapy is only an auxiliary means of treating hypertension. Please do not give up drug treatment when undergoing exercise therapy. Especially for patients with hypertension above stage 2, exercise therapy should be carried out on the basis of drug treatment.
